The Hyperion Trio was founded in 1999 and has gone on to earn an outstanding reputation in Germany and the international music world and to perform an extraordinarily broad repertoire. In its programs and the concert cycles designed by it for the cities of Hanover, Magdeburg, and Leipzig the Hyperion Trio has performed more than a hundred works, some of them as premieres or in programs in which great masterpieces are heard together with the music of lesser known composers whose works have yet to be rediscovered. The Hyperion Trio triumphed at the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in 2001 and presented the first Eugène d’Albert Seminar at the Villa Teresa in Coswig in 2006. Its first CD production, released in 2006, comprised four CDs in the form of a cycle dedicated to Robert Schumann and featuring works by Robert and Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and Franz Liszt. Already this very first production met with enthusiastic acclaim in the international press. A recording of Max Reger’s compositions for piano trio, including the world-premiere recording of his Largo from the Fantasie caractéristique. This CD was elected “Five-Stars-CD” by the magazine “Ensemble”. During the spring of 2006 the Hyperion Trio was invited to premiere the Icelandic composer Atli Heimir Sveinsson’s second piano trio in Reykjavik. Atli Heimir Sveinsson subsequently dedicated his third piano trio, a work composed in 2008, to the Hyperion Trio, and the ensemble released a recording of the same composer’s piano trios on cpo in 2009. A recording of the piano trios of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Emil Hartmann soon followed. The members of the Hyperion Trio have guested at numerous festivals, including the Schumann Festival Weeks and Mendelssohn Festival Days in Leipzig, Weiden Max Reger Days, Göttingen Handel Festival, Frankfurt Festival, Hitzacker Summer Music Days, and festivals of the Amici della Musica in Florence and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. In January 2011 the world-premiere recording of the works for piano trio by Paul Graener has been released on cpo. This recording was lauded by the critics in many countries including the United States where it was chosen among the best releases of the autumn 2011 by the American Record Guide . On the newly released CD (October 2011: Late Piano Trios by Johannes Brahms and the Variations on a theme by Robert Schumann op.1 by Iwan Knorr)the Hyperion Trio has completed the recording of the piano trios by Johannes Brahms. This CD got highest praise by the critics. It has been rewarded the distinction "Recommended by klassik.com" with highest grade in all categories.

What is the fascination of a chamber music evening? Is it not the intimacy of the music-making, the concentrated musical enjoyment, the electrifying and breath-taking proximity? The Hyperion Trio offered all this, and presented a perfect chamber music evening.

Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung

...three true musicians, who were able to bring individuality and homogeneity in equal measure to the joint interpretation. The filigree, vital performance proved fascinating from the first note. Their tremendously expressive playing earned the instrumentalists prolonged applause.
